FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The #8 Indiana Tech men's lacrosse team hosted the #1 Madonna University Crusaders on Saturday event for senior night, where Tech would honor their three seniors
Khiusttin Corpas,
Kinley Hynote, and
Ryan Morgan.
With the pregame senior festivities out of the way, the Warriors came out rocking against the nation's number one team, as Tech scored three quick goals in the opening minutes of the contest to take a 3-0 lead early. Shortly after though, the Crusaders would get on track with five goals in under two minutes to take the lead. Madonna would lead 7-4 after one quarter of play. The second quarter is where the game would start to slip away from the Warriors as Madonna scored nine goals to take a 16-6 lead into halftime. In the third quarter, the Warriors would create a flurry of good opportunities to score but the Crusaders goaltender was locked in stopping all but one shot in the period. Tech was able to match Madonna's output in the fourth quarter, but Tech would fall in the contest by a final of 11-25. Madonna remains perfect in the WHAC and has only suffered one defeat this season as they sit atop the NAIA rankings. Shifting gears, another name on top of the NAIA is Tech's
Cam Fewster. The junior from Calgary, Alberta is currently ranked #1 in the NAIA in points, #2 in assists, and #10 in goals. Despite playing the top team in the nation, Fewster would continue his high-level production, doing all he could to keep the Warriors in the game. The attacker scored a season high seven goals against the Crusaders, while also adding one assist, two ground balls, and one caused turnover.
Zach Spisz was all over the field defensively, leading the Warriors with six caused turnovers and nine ground balls, while also going 5/6 on faceoffs.
Maddox Schwartz would also pick up nine ground balls and would go 12/23 on faceoffs. Senior
Kinley Hynote finished with one assist and three ground balls, senior
Ryan Morgan had one assist, and senior Khuisttin Corpas had one ground ball.
Sam Park played the first 45 minutes in goal for the Warriors, making eight saves and causing one turnover.
Carl Drumgoole played the final 15 minutes in goal and made one save.
The Warriors fall to 9-6 overall and 7-3 in WHAC play. Tech will finish out the regular season with two road games. They will play Lawrence Tech University in their next game on Wednesday, April 22
nd at 7pm in Southfield, Michigan.
