GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The 2 seed Indiana Tech baseball team fell to 7 seed Lawrence Tech 6-5 to open the WHAC Tournament but rebounded to defeat Siena Heights 4-1 to advance to Friday.
Indiana Tech took a 1-0 lead against Lawrence Tech in the bottom of the first on an RBI double by
Derek Ruiz. A wild pitch brought home another run to make it 2-0.
Lawrence Tech scored four runs in the fourth to take a 4-2 lead. Two more runs in the fifth put Lawrence Tech ahead 6-2.
An Indiana Tech run came around to score on an error in the bottom of the fifth to make it 6-3. An RBI single by
Derek Ruiz made it 6-4.
A passed ball in the eighth brought home an Indiana Tech run to make it 6-5. The Warriors had the go-ahead run at second, but a lineout got Lawrence Tech out of the jam.
Lawrence Tech would go on to win 6-5.
Derek Ruiz had two of the four Indiana Tech hits and had both of the team's RBI.
Noah Redmon got the start and the loss, allowing four runs in four innings.
Kaden Plank allowed two runs in 3.1 innings.
Danny May closed the game with 1.2 scoreless innings in relief.
Indiana Tech took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first against Siena Heights on an RBI single by
Garrett Rainey.
The score remained 1-0 until the fifth when a two-run home run by
Garrett Rainey made it 3-0. An RBI bunt single by
Jacoby Roberson in the sixth made it 4-0 Indiana Tech.
Siena Heights scored a run in the sixth to make it 4-1, but neither team scored in the final three innings as Indiana Tech would take the elimination game.
Ben Morrison,
Garrett Rainey, and
Jacoby Roberson all had two hits. Rainey drove in three of the four Indiana Tech runs.
Luke Myers got the start, throwing 2.1 scoreless innings.
Kade Robinson picked up the win, allowing one unearned run in 3.2 innings.
Colton Leatherman picked up his tenth save of the year, throwing three scoreless innings.
Indiana Tech moves to 37-14 on the year. The Warriors will play the loser of 4 seed Cleary and 8 seed Cornerstone on Friday at 4:00 PM at Meijer Park.
