Indiana Tech Sweeps Viterbo, Falls to No. 3 Saint Xavier in Five-Set Thriller

CHICAGO, Ill. – The Indiana Tech men's volleyball team swept Viterbo before falling to No. 3 Saint Xavier in five sets on Saturday.
 
Indiana Tech jumped out to a 13-6 lead in set one against Viterbo. The Warriors would cruise to a 25-16 set one win.
 
Indiana Tech led 14-7 in the second set. The Warriors led by as many as nine as Indiana Tech would take the second set 25-18.
 
Viterbo led 6-3 in set three, but an 8-1 run put Indiana Tech ahead 11-7. Viterbo cut the lead to two at 23-21, but back-to-back points gave Indiana Tech a 25-21 set and match win.
 
Shane Hemphill led Indiana Tech with eight kills. Ben Rosenow added seven kills and seven digs. Logan Gamero had a team-high 5.0 blocks, and Owen Elliott led Tech with five aces. Jesse Biedenbach had 30 assists.
 
Saint Xavier led 10-8 in set one against Indiana Tech. A 7-0 run put SXU ahead 17-8. SXU would cruise to a 25-13 set one win.
 
Indiana Tech led 13-11 in set two, but a 5-0 run put SXU ahead 16-13. Trailing 18-15, Indiana Tech used a 5-0 run to swing the lead in their favor at 20-18. The two teams found themselves tied at 23-23 and 24-24, but back-to-back points gave Indiana Tech a 26-24 set two win.
 
Indiana Tech led 10-6 in set three before a 6-1 run gave SXU a 12-11 lead. The teams went back and forth as Indiana Tech held a narrow 22-21 lead. The Warriors then used a 3-0 run to take the third set 25-21.
 
SXU led 15-12 in the fourth set. The lead stayed steady until SXU extended their lead to 23-18. Indiana Tech cut the lead to two at 24-22, but SXU was able to score a point to take the fourth set 25-22.
 
SXU jumped out to an 8-3 lead in set five. Indiana Tech cut the lead to three at 9-6, but SXU closed the set strong, taking the fifth set 15-8 and the match 3-2.
 
Dylan Poore led Indiana Tech with 16 kills. Zack Karns had 8.0 blocks to lead the team. Nolan Bosley had 41 assists, and Jensen Yarosh had 14 digs. Kristian Kold had two aces.
 
Indiana Tech moves to 18-8 overall. The Warriors return to action on Tuesday for a home match against No. 7 Lourdes.
