FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech baseball team fell to IU Kokomo 18-7 in eight innings on Wednesday.
A sacrifice fly by
Garrett Rainey in the bottom of the first gave Indiana Tech a 1-0 lead. IU Kokomo scored three runs in the third to take a 3-1 lead.
Two runs came around to score on an error in the bottom of the third to tie the game at 3-3. An RBI double by
Derek Ruiz gave Indiana Tech a 4-3 lead. An RBI single by
Jeremy Pudlik in the fourth put Indiana Tech ahead 5-3.
IU Kokomo scored three runs in the fifth to take a 6-5 lead. A double steal by Indiana Tech in the bottom of the fifth tied the game at 6-6. An RBI groundout by
Ryder Lukasik gave Indiana Tech a 7-6 lead.
IU Kokomo scored 10 runs in the seventh to take a 16-7 lead. The Cougars scored two more runs in the eighth to make it 18-7, which would be the final score.
Garrett Rainey and
Derek Ruiz both had two hits to lead Indiana Tech. Rainey, Ruiz, and
Levi Laymon all doubled. Rainey, Ruiz, and
Jorge Santana each stole a base.
Kail Baughman got the start, allowing three runs in 3.1 innings.
Kaden Plank took the loss, allowing six earned runs in 3.0 innings.
Tad Dobek and
Dale Jorgensen combined to throw 1.2 innings in relief.
Indiana Tech falls to 22-13 overall. The Warriors return to action on Saturday at Cornerstone.
