MOBILE, Ala. – The Indiana Tech softball team was in action for the second day of the NAIA Opening round on Wednesday after rain postponed all three games from yesterday to today. faced off with Campbellsville in an elimination game on Wednesday evening in the third game of the day.
To start the day, #3 seed Campbellsville eliminated #5 seed Truett McConnell, winning 3-2 in extra innings to stay alive. Then #2 seed Eastern Oregon defeated #1 seed Mobile in the battle between the two unbeatens. The #4 seeded Warriors would play the #3 seeded Tigers in an elimination game, where the Warriors would come away with a 3-1 victory to advance another day.
After two scoreless innings, Tech would use a big third inning to fuel the victory. Kaelie Kugler got the Warriors on the board with an RBI single to bring home Kiersten Delaney. Alyssa Harvey would lay down a sac bunt to get Kugler across home, and Alyssa Fox hit a RBI double to score Morgan Macek to make it 3-0 Tech. The Tigers would get one in the bottom half of the inning, but the Warriors led 3-1. From there, Savannah Bravo would shut out Campbellsville for the rest of the game to help seal the victory for Tech. She finished with 7.0 innings pitched, three strikeouts, one run and six hits allowed. Harvey led the Warriors with two hits and an RBI, while Kugler went 1-2 with a run scored and an RBI. With the win, Tech moves on to face #1 seed and #13 ranked Mobile, with the loser being eliminated and the winner taking on #2 seed and #6 ranked Eastern Oregon.
The Warriors' only loss in the Opening Round came against Mobile on Monday evening, so they will look to avenge that loss and advance to the final tomorrow. Tech is now 35-17 overall this season and will play at 12pm (CT) on Thursday, May 14th.
