FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Indiana Tech, in partnership with the Motz Group, has installed new zero-waste turf at Warrior Athletic Field in preparation of the 2026-27 season. The new 87,650 field is in the same location, replacing the previous turf.
The nearly $500,000 project included the installation of a CrossFlex 46oz 2.25" dual fiber synthetic turf system. The project is a zero-waste project, which is a sustainability process that sends the materials to recycling partners instead of landfills.
During zero-waste projects, the number of dumpsters is reduced by 95 percent. Nearly every aspect of a synthetic turf field can be recycled. They can also be upcycled into products for a new turf field.
Warrior Athletic Field was built in 2005 for men's and women's soccer. Men's and women's lacrosse were added to the Warrior athletic sports lineup in 2009 and began using the field for home games in their inaugural season in 2010.
In the summer of 2016, Indiana Tech replaced the natural grass surface with an artificial turf, allowing the Warrior athletic teams to practice and play on the field in all conditions and seasons while opening new opportunities for intramural, club teams and community involvement.
