HONOLULU, HAWAII – The Indiana Tech women's volleyball team swept No. 12 Oklahoma Wesleyan on Saturday to conclude their trip to the Paradise Volleyball Classic.
Indiana Tech jumped out to a 13-4 lead in set one. Oklahoma Wesleyan crawled back, cutting the deficit to two at 15-13. Indiana Tech extended their lead to six at 21-15 on back-to-back kills by
Olivia Kracium, but a 7-1 run by OKWU tied the set at 22-22. The teams went back and forth until OKWU led 26-25, when Indiana Tech rattled off three straight points to take the first set 28-26.
Indiana Tech once again started out strong in set two, taking an early 8-3 lead. OKWU made it 11-10, but the Warriors used a 4-1 run to extend their lead to 15-11. With Tech ahead 16-13, a trio of aces by
Kristin Matlack and a pair of kills from
Lauren Snyder extended their lead to 21-13. OKWU fought back to make it 24-21, but a kill from
Lauren Paska gave Indiana Tech the 25-21 second set win.
The third set was tightly contested early as OKWU held a narrow 10-9 advantage before a quick 4-1 run gave Tech a 13-11 lead. The set continued to stay close as OKWU took an 18-17 lead to force an Indiana Tech timeout. OKWU led 23-20 later in the set, but three straight points allowed Tech to tie it at 23-23. OKWU had set point on three separate occasions, but every time Indiana Tech had a response. The Warriors then had set point on three occasions, but this time OKWU answered to tie the set at 29-29. With OKWU serving, an attack error gave Tech a 30-29 lead, and then a kill from
Lauren Snyder gave Indiana Tech the 31-29 set win and 3-0 sweep.
Lauren Snyder was massive for Indiana Tech, leading the way with 17 kills.
Hannah Teich had seven kills, and
Olivia Kracium added six kills and a team-high 4.0 blocks.
Kristin Matlack tied her season high with 39 assists and also recorded 3.0 blocks.
Emiline Wood added 12 digs to lead the team.
Indiana Tech moves to 2-1 on the year. The Warriors return to action on Friday at the Onset Invitational in Fort Wayne.
