FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches to No. 8 Bellevue and (RV) Taylor on day one of the Onset Invitational on Friday.
Set one against Bellevue saw Indiana Tech jump out to a 15-10 lead. Bellevue answered with a 9-2 run to take a 19-17 lead. With Bellevue ahead 23-19, Indiana Tech cut the lead to one at 24-23, but Bellevue took the first set 25-23.
The second set was tightly contested as Bellevue held a slight 14-13 lead. Bellevue pulled ahead 21-15, but Indiana Tech fought back to cut the lead to three at 23-20 to force a timeout. Bellevue scored back-to-back points out of the timeout to take the set 25-20.
Indiana Tech led 6-2 in set three to force a Bellevue timeout. Bellevue then used a 10-1 run to take a 12-7 lead. Bellevue maintained a steady lead until Indiana Tech used a quick run to cut the lead to three at 18-15. Bellevue extended their lead to 22-16 and would take the third set 25-17.
Lauren Snyder led Indiana Tech with 14 kills.
Kristin Matlack had 24 assists, and
Emiline Wood had 12 digs to lead the team.
Hannah Teich and
Katelynn Toft had 2.0 blocks, and
Elizabeth Hudnall had a pair of aces.
In set one against Taylor, Indiana Tech led 11-8 to force a Taylor timeout. Indiana Tech extended their lead to 18-13, but a 4-0 run brought Taylor within one at 18-17. Tech responded to grow their lead to 22-18. Taylor made it 22-20, but two attack errors and an ace by
Elizabeth Hudnall gave Tech a 25-21 first set victory.
Taylor started quickly in set two, taking a 13-5 lead. Taylor would go on to win the second set 25-11.
Set three mirrored set two early as Taylor led 14-6. Taylor led 21-11, but Indiana Tech tried to fight back, narrowing the deficit to 23-17, but it was Taylor who took the set 25-18.
Taylor doubled Tech up early in set four, leading 12-6. The Trojans would go on to take the set 25-11 and the match 3-1.
Lauren Snyder,
Katelynn Toft, and
Madelyn Russell all had six kills.
Kristin Matlack had 22 assists, and
Emiline Wood led with five digs.
Lauren Snyder and
Olivia Kracium each had two blocks, and Snyder also led Tech with two aces.
Indiana Tech moves to 2-3 on the year. The Warriors return to action on Saturday against Rio Grande and Saint Xavier.
