Indiana Tech Takes Down Rio Grande and Saint Xavier as Matlack Reaches 1000 Career Assists

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Sophomore setter Kristin Matlack reached the 1000 career assist milestone as Indiana Tech defeated Rio Grande and Saint Xavier on the final day of the Onset Invitational on Saturday.
 
Set one of match one saw Rio Grande lead 9-7 before a 6-1 run put Indiana Tech ahead 12-9. The teams traded points back and forth for most of the set as the two saw themselves tied at 18-18, 20-20, and 21-21. Indiana Tech scored the final four points to take set one 25-21.
 
Indiana Tech held a slight 8-5 edge in set two before a massive 12-1 run put the Warriors ahead 20-6. Indiana Tech would cruise to a 25-12 second set victory.
 
Indiana Tech led 11-8 in set three before a 6-0 run gave Rio a 14-11 lead. The Warriors cut the lead to one on several occasions, but Rio Grande would take the third set 25-22.
 
Tech jumped out to a 7-1 lead in set four. The Warriors extended their lead to double digits at 19-9 and would cruise to a 25-15 set win and 3-1 match win.
 
Lauren Snyder led Indiana Tech with 14 kills. Olivia Kracium had 12, and Lauren Paska added 11. Kracium and Madelyn Russell each had 3.0 blocks to lead the team. Kristin Matlack led Tech with 41 assists, and Emiline Wood added a team-high 22 digs. Tech had 15 aces, led by Hannah Teich with four.
 
Indiana Tech led set one against Saint Xavier 11-9 before an 8-1 run put St. X ahead 17-12. With St. X ahead 21-18, Indiana Tech used a 5-0 run to swing the lead back in their favor at 23-21. St. X tied the set at 23-23, but back-to-back points gave Indiana Tech a 25-23 set one win.
 
Indiana Tech got out to another lead in set two, jumping out to a 13-7 advantage. St. X never got to within three for the remainder of the set as Indiana Tech took set two 25-17.
 
With St. X ahead 7-6 in set three, Indiana Tech used an 11-0 run to take a 17-7 lead. Indiana Tech would go on to take the third set 25-18 and the match 3-0.
 
Lauren Snyder led Indiana Tech with 10 kills. Kristin Matlack had a team-high 22 assists and three aces. Lauren Paska led Tech with eight digs, and Katelynn Toft had a team-high 4.0 blocks.
 
Indiana Tech moves to 4-3 on the year. The Warriors return to action on Friday at the Michiana Mayhem Tournament at Bethel.
