MISHAWAKA, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's volleyball team swept both Mount Mercy and Bethel (Ind.) on day one of Mishawaka Mayhem on Friday.
Set one against Mount Mercy saw Indiana Tech jump out to a 12-6 lead. Mount Mercy cut the lead to one at 14-13, but Indiana Tech extended the lead to four at 20-16 after a timeout. Mount Mercy cut the lead back to one at 21-20, but four straight points by the Warriors gave Indiana Tech the 25-20 first set win.
Mount Mercy led 11-8 to open the second set. Indiana Tech cut the lead to one at 11-10, but Mount Mercy was able to extend the lead to four at 15-11. With Mount Mercy ahead 19-16, Indiana Tech used an 8-2 run to take a 24-21 lead. Mount Mercy cut their deficit to one at 24-23, but a kill by
Lauren Snyder gave Tech a 25-23 second set win.
Indiana Tech held a narrow 9-8 lead in the third set before a quick 5-1 run put the Warriors ahead 15-10. Mount Mercy brought it to within two at 15-13, but another 5-1 run extended the Indiana Tech lead to six at 20-14. The Tech lead was once again cut to two at 20-18, but the Warriors used a 5-2 run to take the third set 25-20 and the match 3-0.
Lauren Snyder led Indiana Tech with 15 kills.
Hannah Teich added 10 kills and led Tech with 7.0 blocks.
Kristin Matlack had 38 assists, 5.0 blocks, and a pair of aces.
Emiline Wood led Tech with 12 digs.
The first set of match two saw Tech and Bethel tied at 8-8 before a quick run gave Tech a 13-9 lead to force an early timeout. Bethel responded with four quick points to tie the set at 13-13. Indiana Tech then used an 8-2 run to take a 21-15 lead. The Warriors would go on to take the first set 25-18.
Set two began similarly to set one as the teams were knotted up at 9-9. Indiana Tech then used a 5-1 run to take a 14-10 lead. Bethel cut the lead to two at 17-15, but a 4-0 run put Tech ahead 21-15. Bethel once again fought to within two at 23-21, but back-to-back kills by
Lauren Snyder and
Lauren Paska gave Tech the 25-21 second set win.
The third set saw six ties early on as the teams were tied at 14-14. Indiana Tech took an 18-14 lead to force a Bethel timeout. Bethel cut the Tech lead to one at 23-22, but Indiana Tech would use a kill by
Hannah Teich and an attack error by Bethel to take the third set 25-22 and the match 3-0.
Olivia Kracium led Indiana Tech with 10 kills.
Hannah Teich added nine kills and 2.0 blocks.
Kristin Matlack had 40 assists, and
Emiline Wood led Tech with 17 digs. Both
Karleigh Hutchins and
Hannah Teich had an ace.
Indiana Tech moves to 6-3 on the year. The Warriors will take on Grace College and IU South Bend in South Bend on Saturday.
