COLUMBIA, Ky. – The #6 ranked Indiana Tech men's soccer team was down in Kentucky for a Monday night showdown with #18 ranked Lindsey Wilson College, where the Warriors defeated the Blue Raiders 2-0.
Tech was coming off a win over Saint Francis (Ind.) in their last game, sporting a 2-1 record, while Lindsey Wilson entered the game with a 1-0 record after taking down #11 ranked Life last Friday, setting up a competitive match on Monday night. When the game started, it was the home team that created the first chances early and had more of the control in the first half. However, Tech would have the best chance of the first half earning a penalty kick in the 30
th minute of the game that would be saved by the Blue Raiders keeper to keep the game level. This would spark some offense for the Warriors as the half ended with both teams at four total shots and two on goal. In the second half, Lindsey Wilson would again get off the initial chances, but as the half went on the Warriors began to take over. Following the hydration break with about 20 minutes to go, Tech would score twice in quick succession to take the lead. With the ball bouncing around the Lindsey Wilson box, it would find its way to the feet of
Filip Maksimovic who made a nice move to turn and finish to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead. Less than two minutes later,
Anderson Junior would head home the second for the Warriors, scoring on a cross from
Zak El Hannach. Tech would see out the final 11 minutes of play and finish on top 2-0. Maksimovic has now scored the game winner in back-to-back games for the Warriors, while it is two straight games with an assist for El Hannach.
Alan Fleischer made six saves in goal over the 90 minutes, picking up the clean sheet victory, his second of the season.
The Warriors improve to 3-1 on the season and will get set for a three game homestand up next. They will host (RV) Eastern Oregon University on Thursday, September 3
rd at 8pm.
