DEARBORN HEIGHTS, Mich. – The Indiana Tech women's soccer team was back in action for the first time in twelve days on Saturday when they played the University of Michigan-Dearborn on the road to start off conference play.
The Warriors entered the day on a two-game winning streak after defeating Midway 3-1 on September 7
th and then earning a 1-0 win against Calumet St. Joseph due to forfeit on September 15
th. With the Calumet game not being played, Tech would have to start WHAC play after nearly two weeks without real game competition. The Warriors would take some time to find their footing against the Wolverines, as Michigan-Dearborn would control the first half with 15 first half shots. However, the Tech defense would do a good job forcing the Wolverines into tough shots with only three of those making their way on target. The Warriors would put two shots on target in the first half, coming from
Cecelia Landsiedel and
Shelby DeRidder.
In the second half, Tech would get more into the game and outshoot Dearborn 5-1, with three shots on goal. However, that one shot for UM-Dearborn would find the back of the net in the 55
th minute of the game to open the scoring. The Warriors would continue to apply pressure throughout the half, but would be unable to score the tying goal, falling by a final score of 0-1. DeRidder led the Warriors with two shots on goal, while
Jillian Lester had three total shots and one on target.
Madison Strain finished the game with three saves in goal for Tech.
The Warriors fall to 2-5-1 overall this season and 0-1-0 in WHAC play. Tech will host the University of Northwestern Ohio in their next game on Wednesday, September 23
rd at 4pm at Warrior Athletic Field.
