Box Score FORT WAYNE, Ind. –The Indiana Tech women's soccer team survived a visit by the Maple Leafs of Goshen College on Friday night with a 3-2 victory at Warrior Field. The Warriors move to 2-0-1 with the win while Goshen falls to 1-1.

Megan Perrey got the scoring started for the Orange and Black scoring in the 10th minute as she took a cross from Natalie Zimmerman, dribbled around a defender and snuck the ball past the goalie into the lower right 90 for the 1-0 lead.

It was a slow first half mostly dominated by Tech and the scoreboard started to reflect it in the 36th minute when Jessica Zurcher got her first goal of the season on an assist from Amber Huppert. Zurcher settled the long pass and drilled a shot through the hands of the Maple Leafs goalkeeper for the 2-0 advantage at the break.

The Warriors outshot the Maple Leafs 10-3 for the half but had a narrow 5-2 edge on frame. Roell made two point blank saves to preserve the lead in the half while Natalie Thorne stopped three balls.

It didn't take long for the Maple Leafs to get on the board as Dana Christner sent a cross in from the left side and Katelyn Vendrely was knocked down in the box, prompting a penalty kick. Vendrely beat Warriors keeper Jordan Roell to cut the deficit to one, 2-1.

Perrey added to the Tech lead at the 55 minute mark as she recorded her second goal of the game. Zimmerman sent a cross from the right touch line into the box that Thorne knocked away, however, the ball landed at the feet of Perrey who smashed the ball into the open net for the 3-1 lead.

Both teams had several opportunities over the next 20 minutes, but it was Goshen that capitalized, cutting the Warrior lead to one, 3-2, as Mary Person needed the goal at the 75 minute mark on a quick shot after the pass from Vendrely. Person fired a shot from the top of the 18, beating Roell in the upper 90 for the goal.

It was a tense final 16 minutes as both teams fought for control of the game, but the Warriors had the best looks making Thorne work hard, making several tough saves to give the Maple Leafs a chance.

For the game, Indiana Tech outshot Goshen 22-8 and held a 12-5 margin on frame. Thorne made six saves in the second half, nine overall while Roell made one save in the second period and three for the game.

The Warriors return to the pitch on Wednesday, Sept. 4 when they host Huntington University at 7 p.m.
