Box Score CLERMONT, Fla. – The Indiana Tech softball team finally got on the field, after four cancellations, and suffered its third loss of the season, falling to Mount Vernon Nazarene, 5-1 at the National Training Complex on Tuesday.

Neither offense did anything for the first four innings, but the Cougars (3-4) broke through first, scoring a single run in the fifth, two in the sixth and two more in the seventh, while collecting six hits. Tech (0-3) got their lone run in the seventh, collecting two hits while committing an error.

Tori Simper (0-2) got her second start of the season and cruised through the first four innings, allowing just one baserunner, but a pair of two-out hits in the fifth game MVNU the 1-0 lead. An error in the sixth got the Cougars inning started and two walks, a single and a hit-by-pitch scored two more for the visitors.

MVNU added two more runs on two hits in the seventh before the Warriors go their lone tally, a home run, the third in as many games for the Tech,. from Patrice Suplicki.

Simper pitched well, allowing five runs, four earned, on six hits over seven innings while walking five and striking out two.

Her counterpart, Ashley Riffel (1-2), was dominant, allowing just one run on two hits, striking out one over seven innings.

Suplicki was the highlight on offense with the other hit coming off the bat of Juliaclare Plezbert.

The Warriors will look to grab their first win tomorrow when they face Midland (Neb.) for a doubleheader at 1 p.m.
