Box Score CLERMONT, Fla. – The Indiana Tech softball team came close to its first win of the season, but their rally fell just short as Midland won both games at the National Training Center on Wednesday. Tech lost game one 2-5, before falling 3-4 in the second.

Tech is now 0-5 on the season, all coming as part of the NTC Spring Games, while Midland improves to 6-7 on the season.

Junior Taylor Craven got her first start of 2014 in the first game and went the distance, pitching well, but the offense just wasn't there for Tech.

The Orange and Black were the home team in game one and Midland took advantage of batting first, scoring two runs on three hits to open the game. Tech was quiet in their half of the inning and after two quick outs in the second, Midland loaded the bases on three straight singles, but Craven induced a groundout to keep the lead at two.

In their half of the second, Tech got a one-out triple from Jenevie Rivas, but she was thrown out at home a batter later on a groundball to third, ending the threat.

In the top of the third, a leadoff double for Midland led to their third run of the contest. MU added another tally on two more hits in the sixth to push the lead to four, 4-0.

Tech finally got on the board in the sixth as Bailey Dembinski and Juliaclare Plezbert reached on back-to-back one-out singles and a hit-by-pitch put Jessica Cotton on to load the bases. Hannah Foltz then delivered the big hit Tech needed, a two-run single to cut the lead in half, 4-2.

Unfortunately, that's all Tech could muster offensively and Midland added an insurance run in the seventh, aided by a Tech error, for the final tally, 5-2.

Craven pitched well, allowing five runs, three earned, on 13 hits over seven innings. She struck out two and walked a pair.

Six different Warriors recorded a hit in the contest, with Foltz delivering two RBIs.

GAME 2 | TECH 3, MIDLAND 4 |

Indiana Tech flirted with their first win in the second of the twin-bill, but their rally fell short in the 4-3 loss.

Rivas, much like Craven, made her first start of the season and she also went the distance but couldn't get the win.

Just like game one, Midland scored first, getting a run on one hit and an error in the bottom of the first for the 1-0 lead.

Unlike the first game though, Tech had an answer as a one-out single by Patrice Suplicki followed by a walk to Foltz and a single by Rivas loaded the bases for Craven who drew a two-out, RBI walk to tie the game, 1-1. Another hit and an error in the bottom of the inning gave MU the lead again, 2-1.

The Midland bats struck in the fourth to the tune of two runs on two more hits for the 4-1 advantage. Tech's rally came an inning later as Kylie Hill led off with a single, advanced to second on a wild pitch and went to third on an error by the catcher. Dembinski drew a walk and moved to second on a Plezbert groundout, putting two runners in scoring position for Cotton. The junior singled, scoring two runs and advancing to second on the throw. The rally was cut short though as a double-play ended the inning.

Tech scored their three runs on six hits and two Midland errors with the home team scoring their four runs on eight hits and four Tech errors.

Rivas pitched six innings, allowing four runs, two earned, on eight hits with two strikeouts and one walk.

Offensively, six different Warriors again recorded hits with Cotton collecting two RBIs and Craven driving in the third.

The Warriors continue play at the NTC Spring Games tomorrow, Mar. 20 when they face Muscatine Community College in an exhibition game at 1 p.m. followed by a contest against Carroll University at 3 p.m. Both games are scheduled to be played at Hancock Park.
