@INTechSoftball Finishes 1-3 in Non-Conference Tripleheader

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Indiana Tech softball team had their first tripleheader of the season on Sunday and went 1-2 at the National Training Center as part of the NTC Spring Games.

GAME 1 | TECH 2, UNOH 3 |

In the first of a pair of non-conference contests against Northwestern Ohio, the Warriors (2-7) fell short, losing on a one-out, walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh.
Maggie McCrory got the start for Tech and pitched well, allowing just one run on three hits over five innings, but she got the no-decision as Alli Watson took the loss, allowing two runs on five hits in 1 1/3 innings.

The Warriors got off to a solid start as Bailey Dembinski singled to lead off the contest and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt before moving to third on a Juliaclare Plezbert single. Jessica Cotton followed with a sacrifice bunt, scoring Dembinski for the first tally of the contest.

McCrory allowed just one hit through the first three innings, but a pair of hits and an error in the fourth plated the Racers first run of the contest. Tech was able to get that tally back in the top of the sixth as Dembinski led off the inning with a walk and scored on Plezbert's RBI single.

The Racers weren't finished though as two singles and a sacrifice bunt tied the game once again before three singles and a pair of fielder's choices plated the game-winning run in the seventh.

Plezbert finished the contest 3-for-3 with and RBI while Dembinski was 1-for-3 with two runs scored.

GAME 2 | TECH 3, UNOH 1 |

Tori Simper (1-2) got her first win of the season in the second of the twin-bill, tossing seven innings of one-run ball, allowing just four hits while walking one against two strikeouts.

A leadoff double followed by a sacrifice bunt and a single plated the only Racer run in the contest, as the freshman pitcher allowed just two hits the rest of the game.

The Warriors tallied eight hits in the contest, including three in a three run fifth inning, the difference in the game. Simper started the inning with a walk and after a Taylor Craven singles put two runners on, Dembinski drove in Simper with a single of her own. With runners on the corners and one out, Plezbert singled home Craven for the go-ahead run while a passed ball plated Sofia Johantgen for insurance.

Craven was the lone Warrior to record two hits, finishing 2-for-3 with a run scored with six other Warriors reaching via a hit.

GAME 3 | TECH 5, CUAA 13 |

Tech's third game of the day was also a non-conference contest with Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference opponent, Concordia. The Cardinals won the contest in five innings, 13-5.

The Orange and Black got on the board first as a pair of one-out walks put runners at first and second for Cotton who tripled, driving in two runs and scoring one batter later on an RBI groundout by Hanna Foltz.

After Katie Bird stranded a runner in the bottom of the first, Tech got her two more runs of offense. A walk, hit-by-pitch and a double play put Bird at second with two outs. Dembinski was then hit by a pitch and an error allowed Johantgen to reach first, sending Dembinski to third and Bird scored. A successful double steal brought Dembinski home for the 5-0 lead for the Warriors.

The Cardinals got all five runs back in the third inning, scoring five runs on six hits, including four straight to start the frame. Eight more runs on three hits and a Warrior error in the fourth accounted for the final 13-5 margin of victory.

Cotton and Foltz had the two hits for Tech with Cotton driving in two and scoring once, finishing 1-for-1. Foltz was 1-for-3 with the team's only other RBI.

The Warriors conclude action at the NTC Spring Games on Monday, Mar. 24 as they face Mount Mercy in a doubleheader beginning at 9:30 a.m. followed by a single game against Concordia at 1 p.m.
