Box Score FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech baseball team used a three-run fifth inning to scratch out a 5-1 win over Siena Heights in a rain-shortened Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) contest on Saturday afternoon. Game two of the scheduled doubleheader was canceled due to rain.
The Saints took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth, but the Warriors would respond with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning after
Peyton Newsome singled through the left side to score
Glen McClain.
The Orange and Black would take advantage of a SHU error in the fifth which allowed
Mark Carpenter to score Tech's second run of the game. The hosts would then use back-to-back hits from
Tighe Koehring and McClain to score two more runs and extend the lead to 4-1 before adding an insurance run in the sixth off a
Kyle Mead double.
James McReynolds would get the win after going six strong innings in the rain, allowing just one earned run on five hits and two walks while striking out four. Mead, Koehring and McClain would each record RBI's while
Charlie Sipe added a double.
Tech (29-16, 13-12 WHAC) concludes their series with Siena Heights on Sunday with a Senior Day doubleheader. Game one has been moved up to an 11 a.m. start time due to impending weather conditions while Senior Day festivities will take place in between games on the field.
