Box Score FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech softball team fell to Cornerstone, 6-5, on Wednesday afternoon in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) action at the Fort Wayne Softball Field. Game two of their scheduled doubleheader was postponed due to inclement weather and impending darkness and will be made up Saturday.
The Warriors took the early lead as
Kelsey Reinhardt knocked in
Brianna Glass with a single to left four batters into the game, but the Golden Eagles would respond with four runs in the top of the second to take the lead. Jessica Wright would provide most of the offense with a three-run homer while a pair of Tech errors allowed the fourth run to score later in the inning.
Cornerstone would get to starter
Tori Simper in the third as they scored two more runs to chase the Warriors' starter and extend their lead to 6-1.
Lauren Ohnesorge would knock in the next two Tech runs with an RBI single in the third and a double in the fifth to cut the deficit to 6-3.
Emily Martin would bring the hosts to within two runs in the sixth with a pinch-hit home run while
Brianna Glass would cut the deficit to a run in the seventh as she took advantage of a misplay by the visitors' left fielder on a single from
Madison Ohnesorge in the seventh.
Lauren Ohnesorge would reach base after being hit to put to the game-winning run on the base paths, but CU pitcher Brooke Leonard would escape the jam to finish the complete game performance and give the visitors the 6-5 win.
Glass would go 3-4 with three runs, two doubles and a stolen base while the Ohnesorge sisters would each record a pair of hits.
Tech (3-30-1, 1-11 WHAC) returns to action Saturday as they travel to Grand Rapids, Michigan to take on No. 8-ranked Davenport in a doubleheader before driving across town to Cornerstone to finish their series with the Golden Eagles. First pitch for the DU doubleheader is set for 1 p.m. from Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex.
