FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 5-ranked Indiana Tech men's basketball team is set to open play in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Tournament Wednesday as they host Siena Heights in a 7 p.m. tip-off from the Schaefer Center.
Tech, seeded second in the WHAC Tournament, finished the regular season with a record of 25-5 and 17-3 mark in conference games. It is the best finish for the Warriors since the 2007-08 season when they also finished second and went on to win the WHAC Tournament.
The Orange and Black have a balanced scoring effort with seven players averaging nine points or more per game.
Darren Groves paces the team in scoring (15.2 ppg) and rebounding (9.0 rpg) while shooting 54.8% from the floor.
Dylan Phair (13.5 ppg),
Max Huber (11.7),
Nic Williams (10.6) and
Joel Wincowski (10.4) also average double digits in the scoring department, with Wincowski leading the team in field goal percentage (55.85), three-point field goal percentage (49.2%), assists (3.0 apg) and steals (2.0 spg).
Siena Heights went 12-16 during the season and finished seventh in the conference with a 7-13 mark. The Saints are led by Tony Jackson II, who averaged 15.0 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. They are currently on a three-game losing skid and lost both matchups to the Warriors this season.
Admission for WHAC Tournament games are $7 for adults and $5 for students/seniors. Children under eight years old are free.
