Warriors Win WHAC Rocket League Tournament

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Indiana Tech esports program made history Saturday as they won the inaugural Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Rocket League Tournament at Aquinas College, going a perfect 4-0 through the double elimination bracket inside the Sturrus Sports & Fitness Center.
 
The number two seed in the tournament, Tech started off the day by outlasting seventh-seeded Siena Heights University 3-2 in the quarterfinals before taking down third-seeded Cleary University 3-1 in the semifinals. The Warriors met fourth-seeded Lawrence Tech in the finals and came on top in the battle of the Tech's with a 3-2 win to go on to the grand finals, where they would take down LTU again, this time by a 4-2 score.
 
The Warriors also collected some hardware for the regular season as Brendan Miller and Nathanael Wertz were voted to the All-Conference First-Team by the league coaches. Miller led the conference in goals (60) and shots (181) while adding 34 assists and 61 saves in 45 games. Wertz was tops in the conference in assists (43) while adding 50 goals and 163 shots in 45 games. Wertz was also named to the All-Academic and Champions of Character Team.
 
Tech now turns its WHAC attention to Overwatch and League of Legends, with the conference schedules being conducted in the spring semester. The WHAC Overwatch and League of Legend Tournaments, are scheduled for April 9, 2022 and are single-elimination tournaments with the best of three matches.
