FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech indoor track team opened the 2022-23 season at the Hilliard Gates Center for the Mastodon Opener hosted by Purdue Fort Wayne.
Tech had 6 top 5 finishes in the running events for the women's team.
Jamaya Warthen finished top of the podium in the 60-meter dash, clocking a time of 7.64 while crossing the line first in the 200-meter dash with 25.61.
Jo'Deci Irby won the 600 with a time of 1:35.95, while
Olaide Olapade finished 5
th for the Warriors with 1:40.97. Tech had two top 5 finishes in the 60-meter hurdles in
Katlyn Jones, 2
nd, and Omarea Daniels, 5
th, with times of 8.70 and 9.49, respectively.
In the field events,
Mary Catherine Lee earned the top spot clearing 1.63m in the High Jump. In Pole Vault,
Maeve Milligan and
Savannah Emaus finished 1
st and 2
nd, clearing 3.12m and 2.97m. Tech had two top 5 finishers in the Long Jump as Jaunita Freeman-Webster jumped 5.54m while Naiyae Evans recorded 5.35m.
Katlyn Jones and
Kaylee Fisher jumped 10.99m and 10.18m in the Triple Jump to finish 2
nd and 3
rd. Deneara Mboug finished 4
th in Shot Put, throwing 12.17m, while finishing 1
st in the Weight Throw with a distance of 15.37m.
On the men's team, they had four of the top 5 finishers in the 60-meter, with Parish Smith winning, with a 7.01, followed by
Isaac Jackson (7.02),
Brice Taylor (7.06), and
Joshua Ballard (7.22) in 2
nd, 3
rd, and 5
th, respectively. The 200-meter was more of the same, with four finishers in the top 5.
Brice Taylor (22.40) topped the podium, followed by Parrish Smith 2
nd (22.55), Sean Torres 4
th (22.95), and
Desmond Patterson 5
th (23.12). The Warriors took the 1 and 2 spots in the 400, with Victor Centeio crossing the line with a 50.68 and Aaron Heisser clocking a 51.75.
Noah Kelsey and Cameron Thompson finished 3
rd and 5
th in the mile run with times of 4:26.85 and 4:48.01. In order, Joe Mitchell, Collin Dillon,
Maurice Patrick, and Jaivon Smith finished as the top four in the 60-meter hurdles.
In the field events,
Tayvahr Wright finished 2
nd in the high jump, clearing 1.96m.
Noah Schultz and
Drennan Sorrell took the top two spots in Pole Vault, clearing 4.35m and 4.20m.
Joshua Ballard claimed the top spot in the long jump, covering a distance of 6.97m, while Khalil Carr finished 3
rd, jumping 6.65m. Mason Murphy finished 3
rd in the weight throw with a length of 15.35m.
