MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. - The #6 seeded Indiana Tech women's ice hockey team defeated the #7 seeded UMass, 4-0, on Wednesday afternoon at USA Arena-CICC in the first round of the ACHA Women's DI National Tournament.
Sterling Nesbitt got the party started for the Warriors, sinking an unassisted goal just under 10 minutes into the contest and with 35 seconds remaining before the first intermission, her teammate
Megan Yakiwchuk gave the Warriors some insurance, burying one into the back of the net off of assists by
Dakota Bowler and
Izzy Pettem-Shand.
Carrying a 2-0 lead into the second period, it was Pettem-Shand doing what she does best, scoring, this time unassisted on a Warrior power-play to make it 3-0 headed into the final period.
Dakota Bowler scored at the 16:55 mark, all but sealing the fate of the Minutemen, and sending the Warriors to the second round of the ACHA Nationals where they will face off against either #5 Lindenwood or #8 McKendree.
Izzy Varner had a fantastic day in net, as she earned the shutout victory.Â
