Warriors and Bulldogs Battle of Top Ten Teams Did Not Disappoint

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Indiana Tech Warrior's Women's hockey team played a two-game series against their rival opponent, the No. 3 ranked Adrian College Bulldogs, to a tough loss on the road Thursday night in Adrian (MI) and a tie at home Friday night, moving their record to 13-4-1 on their season.

In game one, the Warriors and Bulldogs kept it scoreless until one minute remaining in the first as the Warriors let in a powerplay goal making the Bulldogs up 1-0 after the first period. The Warriors were looking to fight back, but the Bulldogs managed to find the back of the net five more times in the second period making Adrian up 6-0 in the second. Early in the third period the Warriors found a way to achieve three more goals, the first scored by Dakota Bowler assisted by Isobel Pettem-Shand, the second scored by Michelle Borland assisted by Lauren Younker, and the third scored by Genessie Williams assisted by Michelle Borland, which was a powerplay goal. The Bulldogs found a way to bury late in the third period making game one a final score of 7-3 for the Bulldogs. Izzy Varner played 24 minutes in net saving 15 shots in total, and Ashtyn Berthiaume played 36 minutes in net saving 10 shots in total.

In game two, the Warriors were looking for redemption yet again, hoping for a victory going into the Christmas break. The Warriors and Bulldogs took it to a close battle all night making it scoreless again until the last two minutes of play in the first period. This time, the Warriors came out on top with Hailey Hudder finding the back of the net on the powerplay assisted by Lauren Younker and Sophie Kuzminski. The Warriors were up 1-0 after the first period. Michelle Borland scores a shorthanded breakaway goal assisted by Maddie Beek in the second making Tech up 2-0, but the Bulldogs found a way to climb back, scoring almost a minute later making it 2-1 for the Warriors. Ashley Episcopo buries the puck from the point late in the second period on the powerplay, assisted by Dakota Bowler and Genessie Williams, but the Bulldogs fought back with a powerplay goal of their own, scoring with thirty seconds left in the second period making it 3-2 for the Warriors. The Warriors were hoping to keep the lead for victory, but the Bulldogs found a way to tie it up early in the third period making it 3-3 after regular play. Neither team could find a way to victory after overtime, so the game remained a 3-3 tie after regular and overtime play. Junior Izzy Varner played a total of 65 minutes in goal, making a total of 35 saves during the rivalry battle against the Bulldogs.
