Women’s Hockey Advances in National Tournament

MARLBOROUGH, Ma. – On Thursday, the women's hockey ACHA National Championships began in Marlborough, Massachusetts. Indiana Tech was set to play McKendree University (Ill.) in the first round of the ten-team tournament. The Warriors entered the tournament as the No. 5 seed and got in a defensive battle with the No. 8 seeded Bearcats, winning by a narrow 1-0 margin.

The lone goal of the game came just over six minutes into the first period when Izzy Pettem-Shand assisted Dakota Bowler. After that, the defenses were stifling, allowing just 28 total shots on goal between the two sides, with Tech having a 16-12 advantage. Mackenzie Addley kept the shutout for the Warriors in goal, saving all 12 Bearcat shots.

The Warriors advance into the final eight, where they will play the No. 4 seeded Adrian College Bulldogs (Mich). The Warriors and Bulldogs have become very familiar with each other, playing five times this season already. The Warriors won three of their five meetings this season but lost the last matchup 3-0 in the conference tournament championship game. Tech will look to get their revenge on the Bulldogs when they face off on Saturday, March 18th at 10 AM with a spot in the semifinals on the line.
