Tech Men's Track & Field Captures Little State Championship

MARION, Ind. -- The Indiana Tech men's track and field team used their impressive depth from a multitude of events on Thursday and Friday to capture the 118th Indiana Little State Championship at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion.  

The Tech men, ranked 6th in this week's USTFCCCA national poll, scored 128.50 points to pull away from Marian (112) and Indiana Wesleyan (108.5).  It's the first Little State title for the men since 2016.

Indiana Tech's women finished third behind Indiana Wesleyan and the University of Indianapolis.

On the men's side, event winners included Ahumad Williams (110h), Kamari Rush (100m), Shomari Somerville (high jump), and the 4x100 relay team.  The women got event wins from Kiya Pogue (100m), Korissa VanOver (5000m racewalk), Soyinne Grenyion (400m), Krista Boese (1500m), and the 4x800 relay team.

Additional highlights:
  • In addition to the event win, the women's 4x800 of Krista Boese, Haven Evans, Lily Greiwe, and Lisa Voyles team earned an NAIA "A" standard in 9:23.76.
  • Tech went 1-2-3-4 in the men's 110 hurdles with season bests across the board from Williams (14.15), Collins Mokuah (14.23), Javon Sanders (14.32), and Diego Sekiyama-Nava (14.66).  Sanders and Sekiyama-Nava both earned PR's and picked up "A" and "B" standards, respectively.
  • Kiya Pogue won the 100m in a PR and "B" standard of 11.92 and finished 2nd in the 110h in a season-best of 13.97.
  • Tayvahr Wright (1.95m) was right behind Somerville (2.0m) in the high jump to give Tech a 1-2 finish.
  • Seven Warriors went under 11 seconds in the men's 100m led by PR's from Rush (10.54), David Slick (10.72), and Brice Taylor (10.74).
  • Carlie Turner earned an "A" standard in the women's long jump in 5.90m to finish 2nd.
  • Victoria Todd (36.76m) and Korah Honig (35.23) got PR's in the discus with each moving into the all-time top ten in the event.
  • Deneara Mbouge improved her own freshman school record in the hammer throw at 44.69m.
  • Noah Schultz got an outdoor PR in the pole vault (4.55m) to finish 8th.
  • McKenna Palmer earned two huge PR's, finishing 2nd in the 800m (2:21.58) and scoring in the 1500m (4:53.78).
  • Four Warriors scored in the men's 200m, led by Eric Pullum's 4th place finish in 22.18.
  • Christopher Putman rolled to a 33:03.72 in his first 10k race.
  • Soyinne Grenyion ran a 56.50 to win and Jo'Deci Irby got the "A" standard (56.57) in the women's 400m.  Five of the top seven finishers were from Tech.
  • Indiana Tech took three of the top five spots in the men's 400m, led by Braden Crosby (48.70) in 2nd, Rush (48.82) in 3rd, and Aaron Heisser (49.15) in 5th.
  • Krista Boese improved her all-time #4 mark in the 1500m with a win in 4:42.85.
  • Noah Kelsey picked up a five-second PR in the 1500m in 4:03.11 to move to 6th on the all-time list.
  • Lisa Voyles ran 17:39.94 in the 5000m to finish 2nd and move to #3 on the all-time list in her Tech debut in the event.
  • Korissa VanOver won the 5000m racewalk in a PR and all-time #2 mark of 29:38.40.
The Warriors return to action next week when they travel to Nashville to compete at Vanderbilt.
