Warriors Sweep RedHawks in Top Ten Matchup

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The #7 ranked Indiana Tech Women's hockey team took a weekend sweep against #10 ranked Miami University (Ohio) this past weekend winning 2-1 in overtime on Friday night on the road, and 3-2 at home on Saturday afternoon. This moves their overall record to 10-3-1 on the season.

In game one, the action began at 1:54 of the first period when Megan Yakiwchuk put Indiana Tech on the board, earning her ninth goal of the season with assists from Izzy Pettem-Shand and Payton Gilmour. Miami responded late in the period at 18:39 tying the game 1-1. Both teams battled through the remainder of regulation but neither found the back of the net, forcing overtime. In the extra frame, Halle Murray delivered the game-winning goal at 2:45, her fifth of the season, with Ashley Episcopo providing the assist. Goaltender Izzy Varner played a total of 62 minutes and 45 seconds, saving a total of 43 out of 44 shots. 

Game two opened with Indiana Tech scoring twice in the first period. At 7:43, Dakota Bowler scored her seventh goal of the season, assisted by Hailey Terpstra and Sylvie Legault. They extended the lead at 10:22 on a power-play goal from Allison Greene, her fourth of the season, with Bowler and Legault providing the assists. Miami came back early in the second period, scoring to make it 2-1, then tied it at the 16:45 mark, making it 2-2. With time ticking down in the second period Indiana Tech reclaimed the lead at 19:59 when Izzy Pettem-Shand scored her sixth goal of the season just before the buzzer, assisted by Mikayla Kalverda and Terpstra. Her goal would prove to be the winner as the Warriors pulled out a 3-2 victory at home. Goaltender Izzy Varner played a total of 60 minutes and saved 24 out of 26 shots on net. 

The Warriors are back in action next week as they enter another two-game series against the #6 ranked University of Michigan. Game one is on the road Thursday, November 21st in Ann Arbor, Michigan and game two is back home on Friday, November 22nd at the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse in Fort Wayne, Indiana at 7pm.
