Box Score 2 FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The #8 ranked Indiana Tech Warriors Women's hockey team lost two tough battles this weekend as they played #9 ranked University of Michigan-Dearborn in a two-game series, one on the road and one at home. This moves their overall record to 18-8-1.
In game one, the Warriors traveled to Dearborn, Michigan for a Friday night game on the road. The Warriors came out on top first as Genessie Williams scored early in the first period, assisted by Maddie Beek and Allison Greene. Michigan-Dearborn came back to tie it up not long after, making it 1-1 going into the second period. Allison Greene found a way to put it in the back of the net on a power play goal, assisted by Izzy Pettem-Shand and Halle Murray making Tech up 2-1 in the second. Michigan-Dearborn fought back and tied it up 2-2 early in the 3rd period. Both teams battled hard until the end, but Michigan-Dearborn came out on top scoring the game winning goal in the midst of the third period. The Warriors pulled their goalie hoping to tie the game up, but Dearborn held onto the lead, making the final 3-2 for the Wolverines. Junior goaltender Izzy Varner played 59 minutes, saving a total of 18 shots.Â
In game two at home, the Warriors scored the first goal of the game when Michelle Borland found the back of the net on an assist by Genessie Williams. Michelle Borland scored again in the second period on a power play goal, assisted by Halle Murray, putting the Warriors up 2-0 in the second period. Early in the third period Michigan-Dearborn would score to tighten up the game, and not long after, scored a short-handed goal to tie it at 2-2. Later in the third period, Dearborn would find a way to come out on top, scoring to take the lead at 3-2 with just under six minutes to play. The Warriors pulled their goalie in hopes to tie the game up, but Dearborn stood strong and won the game 3-2 against the Warriors. Junior goaltender Izzy Varner played 58 minutes and 14 seconds in net, saving a total of 21 shots.Â
The Warriors are back in action this week as they travel to Lynchburg, Virginia to take on the #2 ranked Liberty University Flames in a two-game series on the road. They will play game one on Thursday, February 15th at 8pm and game two on Friday, February 16th at 2pm, both at the LaHaye Ice Center.Â
