Box Score 2 INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Indiana Tech softball team traveled to Indianapolis, Indiana, on Wednesday afternoon for a non-conference doubleheader with the No. 7 ranked Marian University Knights. After falling in the first game, 1-9, the Warriors bounced back in game two to pick up a top-ten, 12-7, win and split the series.
In game one of the doubleheader, the offenses were held scoreless through the first two frames, but the Knights kicked things into gear in the bottom of the third as their offense exploded to put up four runs and grab the lead. A solo home run in the top of the fourth from Tech's
Katie O'Drobinak pulled one run back for the Warriors, but the Knights had already broken the seal and answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the fifth. Another four runs in the bottom of the sixth for Marian would end the game early in favor of the hosts 9-1.
Both offenses came alive in the nightcap as
Jayme Koning kicked things off for the Warriors with a two-run shot in the top of the first inning. The hosts quickly responded with a two-RBI double in the bottom of the first to reestablish the deadlock. After a scoreless top half for Tech, the Knights seized their opportunity to take the lead with three runs in the second. Tech responded with their own three-run frame, kicked off by a single to left from
Kennedi Sullivan, which saw
Maire Trouba score from third. Marian retook the lead in the bottom of the inning with one run, but the lead was short-lived as
Katie O'Drobinak went yard for three runs in the top of the fourth and her second home run of the day. An inning later, the Warriors added another two runs to their tally and extended their lead. The Knights brought in one run in the bottom half of the fifth, but
Savannah Bravo came in to pick up the save and hold the hosts scoreless in the final two innings. Tech added two more insurance runs in the top of the seventh to pick up the top-ten win.
Jayme Koning picked up Tech's win on the mound, throwing 4.2 innings.
The Warriors return to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference action on Saturday as they travel to Adrian, Michigan, for a doubleheader with Siena Heights University, starting at 1:00 p.m.
