Women’s Soccer Falls to UNOH in High Scoring Contest

Box Score LIMA, Ohio – The Indiana Tech women's soccer team played #23 University of Northwestern Ohio (UNOH) on Wednesday afternoon in their final road regular season game of the season.

The Racers would control the tempo at the start of the game and put the pressure on early against the Warriors with four shots in the opening ten minutes. However, the tech defense would do a good job forcing the UNOH shots to be off target. Sara Cogoli would face her first shot on target in goal for the Warriors in the 25th minute, as she was able to make the save. The game would seem to be headed toward a scoreless first half, but with less than two minutes to play, the Racers would finally beat Cogoli to make it 1-0 at the break. With the momentum from the end of the first half, the Racers would come into the second half string with two goals in the opening four minutes to bring their lead up to three. The Warriors would make a handful of substitutions in the first 20 minutes of the second half to try to find a spark, but the Racers would hold off the Warriors' charge. However, Tech would not be deterred. In the 75th minute, Addie Nellis would intercept a misplaced UNOH pass and play a ball into the path of a darting Cassie Palazzolo into the attacking third. Palazzolo would take a touch to control it and then from outside the box, unleash a beautiful shot into the top right corner of the goal to put the Warriors on the board. As the game started to wind down, the action would only amplify. With the score at 1-5 heading into the final five minutes of play, there would still be time for five more goals to ensue! UNOH would score at the 85:45 mark, but Palazzolo would immediately get the goal back just 35 seconds later after stealing the ball from an UNOH defender and scoring into the bottom left corner to make it 2-6. However, the Racers would again find an answer, scoring in the 87th, 88th, and 90th minutes as the final score would show 2-9 in favor of UNOH. Despite the score getting out of hand, the Warriors showed fight against a very strong, conference leading, UNOH team. Palazzolo would be the offensive star in the match with two goals, while Nellis added an assist. Cogoli would earn the loss in goal, finishing with three saves, allowing three goals, in 53:32 minutes of action. Madison Strain would play the final 36:28 in net, allowing six goals, and making three saves.

The Warriors fall to 2-11-1 overall and 2-7-1 in WHAC play. Tech will play their regular season finale on Saturday, October 25th at 1pm against the University of Michigan-Dearborn at Warrior Athletic Field.
