@IndianaTechVB 1-1 After First Day of Liz Lykowski Memorial Tournament

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 FORT WAYNE, Ind. –The Indiana Tech volleyball team went 1-1 on the first day of the Liz Lykowski Memorial Tournament played at the Schaefer Center on Friday night. The Warriors are now 7-16 on the season and saw their three match winning streak come to an end.

BOX SCORE | Match 1

The Warriors kept the momentum rolling in the opening match, winning their third straight with a 3-1 (24-26, 25-12, 25-20, 25-22) victory over Shawnee State (11-7).

It was an ominous start for the Warriors who battled hard in the first set, as the teams tied 17 times, with the largest lead going to the Bears at 3-1. The teams traded points until the 24-24 mark when Shawnee St. got a service ace and kill by Rhyanna Day to seal the win, 26-24. The Bears outhit the Warriors in the set, .216 to .122; despite just one more kill (13-12). Tech had three players tally three kills in the set while Katelyn St. Martin led the team with six digs.

For the second match in a row the Orange and Black turned things around in the second set, after dropping four of the first five points, the Warriors went on a 23-8 run to close out the set, 25-12. The Warriors hit .348 in the set while holding the Bears to a -.138 hitting percentage. St. Martin, Christine Foest and Suzanne Taylor each had three kills for Tech with Taylor Kelso tallying five digs.

In set three the Warriors led from wire-to-wire, 25-20 and then overcame some errors in set four to win 25-22. Stacy Nagy tallied nine of her 11 digs in the final two sets, while Taylor added seven and Foest tallied six.

Foest led the way at the net with a .500 hitting percentage while Kelsey Fitzpatrick tallied 28 assists in four sets, both of which are individual match-highs for 2013. As a team the Warriors set a new kills mark for four set games, with 51 while tying the assists mark with 49.

Foest also had a match-high 12 kills while two others, Taylor and Nagy, each tallied 11. Emileen Palka added 14 assists to complement Fitzpatrick's effort.

Defensively, Kelso tallied 22 digs while St. Martin added 14 and Shanice Richards led the way at the net with five blocks (three solo, two assists) while the Warriors tallied 11 blocks as a team.

BOX SCORE | Match 2

The Warriors win streak came to an end in the second match of the day as Tech fell 3-1 (22-25, 23-25, 25-17, 16-25) to the 18th-ranked Georgetown Tigers who improved to 19-4 and went 2-0 on the day.

The Orange and Black played some of their best volleyball of the year in the game that was dedicated to Liz Lykowski, but just couldn't put the Tigers away. The first and second sets were back-and-forth affairs that the Tigers eventually won. Set one saw the Warriors battle back from down 17-12 to tie the score at 20 only to see Georgetown close on a 5-2 run. Set two was much of the same, however, Tech held a 20-17 lead before the Tigers charged ahead, outscoring the Warriors 8-5 to win the set.

The Warriors seemed like a different team in the third set, taking an 8-4 lead and piling on to eventually win 25-17. That momentum that they gained was quickly taken away by the Tigers in the final set as Georgetown scored nine of the first 12 points to win easily, 25-16.

The Warriors played their best set of the year in the third game, hitting a season-high .481 with 15 kills on 27 chances and just two errors. Nagy and Foest each tallied four kills in the game while Taylor added 3. It was the inconstant play, failing to hit over .100 in the other three games, which hurt the Warriors.

Foest led the team with 10 kills while Taylor finished with nine, St. Martin had eight and Nagy tallied seven. Fitzpatrick devlivered 22 assists while Palka tallied 10.

Kelso led Tech with 14 digs while Fitzpatrick added 12. The Warriors did tally seven blocks with Richards collecting one solo and four assists.

The Warriors will conclude play in the Liz Lykowski Memorial Tournament tomorrow with a match against Bethel at 10 a.m. and a 3:30 p.m. contest against St. Ambrose.
