@IndianaTechVB Wins Crosstown Classic, 3-1

Box Score FORT WAYNE, Ind. –The Indiana Tech volleyball team snapped its four-game win streak with a 3-1 (25-15, 21-25, 25-19, 25-17) victory over crosstown rival, the University of St. Francis on Tuesday night at the Schaefer Center. The Warriors improve to 5-15 on the season while the Cougars fall to 9-10.

Tech started off strong with a decisive victory in the first set. The Warriors trailed early, however, after being tied 4-4, the Orange and Black went on a 21-11 run to defeat the Cougars. The Warriors hit .391 in set one, led my Katelyn St. Martin who tallied four kills on five attempts while Suzanne Taylor and Stacy Nagy each tallied three.

In the second set, the two teams went back and forth including seven ties, with the last coming at 16 all. From that point on the Cougars went on a 9-5 run to win the set. The key was once again hitting percentage as the Warriors hit just .068 while the Cougars hit .167 in the set. The Warriors got three more kills from Taylor and Nagy, but no one else had more than one in the loss.

Tech bounced back in the third, leaving no doubt, scoring eight of the first nine points to win 25-19. The Warriors hit .484 in the game led by four from St. Martin and three each from Taylor, Nagy and Christine Foest. St. Martin also led the team with four digs in the set.

The Orange and Black got off to a strong start again in the final set, winning 11 of the first 15 points and going on to win 25-17. Despite just hitting .172 in the set, the Warriors held the Cougars to a -.032 hitting percentage to win the match. Taylor, Nagy and Alexis Morrison each tallied two kills in the final set while Taylor Kelso and St. Martin each had three digs in the win.

The Warriors hit a season high .252 in the victory, led by Nagy who hit .533 with 11 kills on 15 attempts while St. Martin hit .346 and Taylor hit .308 in while the tallied 10 and 11 digs each. Emileen Palka had a season-high 21 assists while Kelsey Fitzpatrick added 19.

Kelso was stellar at libero with 12 digs while St. Martin led the team with 13. At the net, Shanice Richards and Foest each tallied two solo blocks to lead the Warriors.

Indiana Tech returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 2 when they travel to Dearborn, Mich. for a WHAC contest against UM-Dearborn scheduled for 7 p.m.
