Box Score CINCINATTI, Ohio - The Indiana Tech American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Division 3 Ice Hockey team's trio of
Connor Barney,
Ryan Theisen and
Nick Denice were unstoppable this weekend. Saturday afternoon the line accounted for a dozen points in a 6-2 win over Xavier University.
Barney had the hat trick, while Denice added a pair of goals and an assist. Thesien assisted on five of the six tallies and accounted for assists on nine of the 10 goals against the Musketeers this weekend.
At the other end of the rink, goaltender
Tyler Sather registered his first win of the season with 19 saves.
"Brian (Lockhart) and I always talk about getting better each game and we are starting to see that constant upward progression on a regular basis," said assistant coach
Andrew Weiss.
"This win should give us good momentum heading into our rivalry game on Friday."
The Warriors unleashed 51 shots on net and started the scoring with an unassisted tally from Denice to tie the game at 1 early in the first period. It was the only Theisen non-assisted goal this weekend.
Barney then gave Tech the lead for good with a pair of goals less than three minutes apart for a 3-1 second-period lead. Denice would get his second of the game before the period ended for a 4-2 lead heading into the third period.
Nick Janiszewski tallied midway through the third period and Barney completed the hat trick less than a minute later to round out the scoring at 6-2.
After accumulating 10 points on four goals the previous night, the trio amassed 22 points for the weekend with Theisen leading the way with nine assists. Barney and Denice each finished with six-point weekends with Barney tallying five total goals and Denice four.
The Warriors will take on Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne (IPFW) twice this weekend at the SportOne Parkview IceHouse. The first match will be Friday, Dec. 12 at 8:30 p.m. followed by a Saturday, Dec. 13 contest slated for 8 p.m.
