Box Score FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The second-ranked Indiana Tech women's lacrosse team continued its Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference dominance on Thursday, defeating fourth-ranked Aquinas, 22-18 indoors at The Plex South.
Tech improved to 3-0 in conference play and has yet to suffer a WHAC loss since becoming a conference sport last season.
It was a tale of two halves as the Warriors outscored the Saints (2-2, 1-1) 13-5 in the first half, but lost the second half, 13-9. Tech was able to build a quick lead as
Alexis DiGiovanni scored the game's first goal and
Kendall Guthrie added two of her game-high nine goals with
Lauren Allard following with her 17th tally of the season to give the Orange and Black a 4-0 lead. Jacob Haley put the Saints on the board, but
Autumn McMillin and Guthrie netted back-to-back scores for the 6-1 advantage. Hannah Crosby answered for Aquinas with two of her three first half goals to cut the lead to three, 6-3.
With 8:35 to play, Guthrie found an open
Aubri Hazen for her first goal of the season with Guthrie getting another for the 8-3 lead. The Saints scored twice more in the period while Allard tallied two more of her own to go along with a goal apiece for
Tayler Campbell,
Alexa Winter and DiGiovanni.
Tech's defense struggled a bit in the second half as the Warriors had no answer for Crosby who netted four more goals, including the Saints last three tallies. McMillin, Guthrie and Winter were responsible for the Warriors scoring with Guthrie finding the net five times, McMillin three and Winter once. Tech was able to make the large first half lead stand, 22-18.
Guthrie finished with 10 points on nine goals and an assist while McMillin had five points (4 goals, 1 assist) and Allard finished with four (3 goals, 1 assist).
Gabby Young got the win in net, stopping eight of the 17 shots she faced.
Crosby was the star for Aquinas as she finished with nine points on nine goals while Alexandra Burns, Taylor Truttschel and Dani Brodberg each added two tallies.
The Warriors will take a week off and return to the field on Wednesday, Mar. 26 when they host Robert Morris (Ill.) at 5 p.m.
