Box Score BABSON PARK, Fla. – Led by solid pitching from TJ Lutz, the Indiana Tech baseball team got their ninth win of the season with a 5-2 defeat of Webber International on Thursday night.
At the plate,
Justin Kalusa continued to stay hot, recording his 10th hit in five games and extending his hitting streak to 12. He also scored a run.
Brian Hakes also hit well, finishing the contest 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
Indiana Tech (9-8-1) capitalized on opportunities in the third inning where they scored four of their five runs with a double from Kalusa, a run from
Thomas Barnes, a Hakes two RBI single, and runs from Josh Carroll and
Jacob Dunnichay.
Webber International (18-18) got their only two runs from Dylan Price and Trip Merrell on a Lane Crosson single.
Tech got their final run in the eighth inning when Dezmon Nunn scored on a catcher's error.
On the mound, Lutz tossed five scoreless innings of relief allowing three hits and striking out three for the win.
Reece Phillips got the start for Tech, throwing one-inning of one-hit baseball, but he allowed tw runs while walking five and striking out three.
In the first game of the day, a scrimmage against the Detroit Tigers, former Yankee reliever Joba Chamberlain made a relief appearance and junior
Derek Morgan got a base hit off the major leaguer, leaving with a signed ball from the right-hander.
"It was a great experience for our guys," said Head Coach
Kip McWilliams. "This was a once-in-a –lifetime opportunity for these guys and it was great to be able to relax a little bit and just play a fun game."
The Warriors return to action on Friday, Mar. 21 when they travel to Daytona Beach, Fla. to face third-ranked Embry-Riddle at Sliwa Stadium. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
