Box Score 2 ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Indiana Tech baseball team scored 25 runs and belted out 24 hits in their Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference sweep of Concordia, 9-3 and 16-2 in Ann Arbor on Sunday.
GAME 1 | TECH 9, CUAA 3 | BOX SCORE
The Warriors (13-11-1, 5-1) pounded out 10 hits, scoring nine runs and committing two errors in the game one victory.
Clay Wallace (3-3) got the start for Tech and tossed seven innings, allowing three runs on five hits and striking out six while
Curtis Wise closed out the win with two scoreless innings.
After a scoreless first inning, Tech got on the board as
Romer Portes led off the second with a double before advancing to third on a wild pitch.
Jacob Dunnichay followed with a groundout, scoring Portes for the 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the inning, the Cardinals (7-19, 2-4) took the lead with a two-out, two-run, bases loaded single by Marshall Oetting for the 2-1 advantage.
The Warriors answered back in the third as
Derek Morgan led off the frame with a walk and later scored on an RBI fielder's choice by
Justin Kalusa to tie the score at two.
A scoreless third by Concordia allowed Tech to break the game open in the top of the fourth, scoring three runs on just one hit aided by two errors. After two quick outs,
Alex McKinstry singled, Morgan reached on an error and back-to-back walks to
Zach Pfafman and
Thomas Barnes plated McKinstry. Two more runs scored as Kalusa reached on a two-base error, pushing the lead to three, 5-2.
Both offenses quieted down until the seventh when Tech struck again. A one-out triple by Dunnichay got things started and he scored one batter later on a Hakes single. A McKinstry double plated Hakes for the Warriors seventh run of the game.
A two-out RBI single in the bottom of the seventh by Chase Freeman gave Concordia their third and final run of the contest.
The Orange and Black added their final two runs in the top of the eighth with three more hits as Barnes led off the inning with a walk and promptly stole second, advancing to third on Kalusa's single one batter later. Both scored on
Bryan Brudi's two-run single, sealing the 9-3 win.
Barnes and McKinstry each finished the contest with two hits while Morgan scored twice and Brudi drove in two runs.
GAME 2 | TECH 16, CUAA 2 | BOX SCORE
A pair of five run innings propelled the Warriors to the 14-run route in game two.
Chase Keathley (1-2) got the ball in the second game and allowed two runs, none earned, on six hits over four innings while striking out four to earn the win while
Jared Harvey,
Reece Phillips and
Connor McLaughlin combined for three perfect innings of relief including four strikeouts.
The Cardinals two runs came in the bottom of the first as Freeman reached with one out via an error and came around to score the first run on a double by Nate McHugh. Keegan Brandon then followed with and RBI single to go up 2-0. Keathley shut the inning down with a groundout and allowed just three other hits the rest of the way while the offense came to life.
It was a short lived lead as Tech came back in the top of the second with four runs on just two hits. Portes drew a leadoff walk and a hit-by-pitch and another walk loaded the bases with one out for Morgan who drove in two runs with a double to left to tie the game. Pfafman followed with a two-run single and that's all the Warriors needed for the victory, but the offense wasn't done.
Four hits and two errors led to five runs for the Orange and Black in the fifth, with the big hit coming from Dezmon Nunn who plated two runs with a one-out single. One inning later, Nunn was at it again as he drove in two more runs with another single to push the lead to 11 while Tech added another tally for the 14-2 lead.
Three more hits produced two more runs from Brudi and Geronimo Berroa, Jr. were the final tallies of the contest, sealing the 16-2 win.
The Warriors tallied 14 hits and committed just one error in the contest while Concordia score two runs on six hits while committing four errors. N
unn stole the show in game two, finishing 2-for-3 with four RBIs and one run scored while Berroa, Dunnichay and Pfafman each collected two hits.
The Warriors return to action on Tuesday, Apr. 1 when they travel to Muncie, Ind. to take on NCAA Division I Ball State University at 3 p.m.
