Box Score | BELLEVILLE, Ill. – The fifth-seeded Indiana Tech women's lacrosse team won their opening round game of the National Women's Lacrosse League National Tournament, 15-9 over Reinhardt University at Lindenwood Stadium on Thursday.

It took just 55 seconds for the Warriors (11-5) to take their first lead of the national tournament as Alexa Winter netted her first of four tallies for a 1-0 lead. Just over a minute later Sarah Hewett tied the score for the Eagles at the 27:52 mark. NWLL Player of the Year, Kendall Guthrie, tallied her first goal of the contest to take the lead and assisted on a goal from NWLL Second-Team All-American, Autumn McMillin for the 3-1 lead.

Hewett scored another unassisted tally to cut the lead to one, but the Warriors offense got hot, scoring four unanswered goals for a 7-1 lead. McMillin scored with an assist from Lauren Allard, who added her second assist three goals later, this time a goal from Winter. NWLL Honorable-Mention All-American, Alexis DiGiovanni, scored off a pass from Guthrie and McMillin added another tally.

The fourth-seeded Eagles didn't back down, as Hewett netted back-to-back goals and Ashley Gongas and Brooke Haley each scored to cut the lead to one with 7:27 to play in the first. It took just 21 seconds for DiGiovanni to find Guthrie for the Warriors eighth goal and the two-goal, 8-6 halftime lead.

Tech was outplayed in the stats in the first half, being outshot 17-to-14 while also losing ground balls (12-8) and draw controls (9-6), but goalkeeper Gabby Young made seven saves, to just two for the Eagles keeper, the difference in the score.

After changing goalies, the Warriors gave up back-to-back goals to Gongas, tying the score at eight. It seemed to light a fire for the Orange and Black who went on a seven goal run, started by DiGiovanni with an assist from Aubri Hazen who scored six minutes later and then tallied another assist 20 seconds after that on a goal from Winter for a three-goal, 11-8 lead.

Guthrie found Winter at the 18:03 mark to push the lead to four and five minutes later, Tayler Campbell got in on the scoring, making it 13-8 Tech. Guthrie and Allard concluded the Warriors scoring, with the last coming with 4:05 to play to ice the game. Kaleigh Clarke added a tally for Reinhardt with 3:47 to play to make it 15-9, but that's all the Eagles got in the loss.

Tech finished the contest with a 35-26 margin in shots on goal, while wining ground balls 26-17 while both teams won 13 draw controls. Tech ended the contest 10-for-13 on clear attempts while the Eagles were 11-for-15.

Guthrie led the team with six points on three goals and three assists while Winter had a team-high four goals. McMillin finished with three goals and DiGiovanni and Hazen each had three points each.

The Warriors will square-off against top-seeded SCAD Savannah at 6:30 p.m., Friday, Apr. 18 in what will be a rematch of the last two national championship contests, both won by the Bees.
