Warriors to face Davenport for Third-Place

Box Score BELLEVILLE, Ill. – The fifth-seeded Indiana Tech women's lacrosse team's comeback bid fell short in the National Women's Lacrosse League semifinal contest against top-seeded SCAD-Savannah, losing 13-12 at Lindenwood Stadium.
In a rematch of the past two NWLL National Championship games, the Warriors (11-6) and Bees (15-0) battled hard for 60 minutes and Tech ran out of time in their comeback attempt.

It was a rough start for the Orange and Black as SCAD scored the first two goals of the contest, but NWLL Player of the Year and Wolverine-Hoosier Athletics Conference Offensive Player of the Year, Kendall Guthrie, scored back-to-back goals to draw even with 22:55 left in the half.

The Bees netted the next tally, but Guthrie found NWLL Second-Team All-American, Autumn McMillin, to tie the score again and Aubri Hazen added another goal to take the lead. Three consecutive goals from the Bees gave them a two-goal, 6-4 lead with 3:58 left in the first half. With just 39 seconds left before the break, Hazen found Alexis DiGiovanni to cut the lead to one, 6-5 at the break.

SCAD outshot Tech 21-10 in the half while also winning ground balls, 16-13 while the Warriors won eight of the 12 draw controls in the period. Both teams failed one clear attempt each with Tech going 7-for-8 and SCAD going 8-for-9.
Lauren Allard scored the first goal of the second half to tie the score and DiGiovanni and Tayler Campbell followed with goals of their own to give Tech their largest lead of the contest, 8-6, with 21:28 to play. Kayla Nelson of SCAD followed with back-to-back goals to tie the game at eight, and the Bees added another goal to take the lead again, 9-8.

Nelson then traded goals with Campbell and McMillin to maintain a one goal, 11-10 lead and a pair of goals from Jordan Cook gave the top team a three goal lead with 2:22 to play. McMillin cut into the lead with 1:45 left in the contest and 20 seconds later Hazen cut the deficit to one with 1:24 left. SCAD won the ensuing draw control, but Tech forced a turnover with 22 seconds left, but couldn't get off a shot, falling 13-12.

The Bees outshot the Warriors 33-25 in the game while Tech won ground balls 27-26 and draw controls, 17-10. Both teams also failed four clears with the Orange and Black going 10-for-14 while SCAD was 14-for-18.

Warriors goalkeeper, Meaghan Eldridge made 13 saves in the contest while allowing 13 goals in 60 minutes of action.

Guthrie, Hazen and McMillin each finished with three points while McMillin led the team with three goals. Hazen and Guthrie each scored twice and added an assist.

The Warriors will conclude their 2014 season as they compete for third-place at Lindenwood Stadium tomorrow at 4 p.m. as the face WHAC tournament champion, Davenport University.
