NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. – The Indiana Tech baseball team extended its second-long win streak to eight games with a 14-8 victory over NCAA Division III Manchester University at Gratz Field on Tuesday night.
The Warriors (29-19-1) scored in every inning except the first as the contest was called after six innings due to inclement weather. The offense was aided by seven walks and seven hit batters while also tallying four extra base hits, two home runs.
A
Justin Kalusa RBI single in the second plated the game's first run and
Alex McKinstry followed an inning later with an RBI double to left to push the lead to two.
The Spartans (23-12) got both runs back on a home run in the third, but Tech battled back as Kalusa belted his team-leading sixth home run to take a 4-2 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth MU took their first lead of the contest, plating four run on four hits, a walk and a hit batter for the 6-4 advantage.
A pitching change began the fifth and it looked to be a good move for the Spartans as the first two batters grounded out, but three consecutive free passes loaded the bases and
Bryan Brudi cut the deficit to one with a single and
Romer Portes delivered the dagger with a grand slam to center field and a 9-6 advantage.
Another two-run round tripper by the home team cut the lead back to one, however, in what turned out to be the last inning, the Warriors posted another crooked number with five runs on four hits and a 14-8 win.
Kalusa recorded his fourth hit and RBIs number four and five in the contest with a double and scored two batters later on a Portes two-run single, the game's final tallies.
Blake Converset (1-0) got his first win as she allowed two runs on two hits over two innings of relief, as
Aaron Carroll got the start, going four innings, permitting six runs on six hits.
The offense was the story in the intrastate slugfest as, led by leadoff man Kalusa who finished 4-for-4 with five RBIs and three runs scored, while also drawing a walk. Portes was 2-for-5 with six RBIs while Brudi and McKinstry each tallied a pair of base knocks.
The Warriors will conclude their regular season with a four-game series against Wolverine-Hoosier Athletics Conference foe, Aquinas, at Warriors Stadium on Wednesday, Apr. 30 and Thursday, May 1. First pitch tomorrow is slated for 3:30 p.m. with Thursday's twin bill set to begin at 1 p.m.
