Brudi Stays Hot as @INTechBaseball Earns Series Split with @AQSaintsGR

Wise earns fifth save in 5-4 win
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech baseball team earned a series split with a pair of victories over Aquinas on Thursday at Warriors Stadium. Tech got wins number 30 & 31 on the season, taking game one 13-5 and game two, 5-4.

GAME 1 | IT 13, AQ 5

The Warriors (30-21-1, 20-10) got off to a fast start in support of freshman right-hander Jared Harvey, staking him to a 1-0 lead in the first as Justin Kalusa tripled and scored on a passed ball.

Tech added on in the second with six runs on four hits and a Saints error. Kalusa and Romer Portes each recorded RBI singles while Bryan Brudi did the heavy lifting with a two-run ground-rule double.

Kalusa and Brudi were at it again in the third as Kalusa scored Geronimo Berroa, Jr. with an RBI groundout and Brudi followed with an RBI single for the 9-0 lead.
Harvey breezed through the first three innings, allowing just one hit until the fourth as the Saints got back-to-back singles and a walk loaded the bases with none out. Aquinas was only able to get a single run on a sacrifice fly as Harvey struck out a pair to end the inning.

It all came apart in the fifth for Harvey as the Saints added four runs on three hits, with the help of a Warrior error, but Blake Converset was able to stop the bleeding, stranding two runners, preserving the 9-5 lead.

An errors on a Jacob Dunnichay groundball plated the Warriors 10th run and Brain Hakes followed with a two-run double to right center to push the lead to seven, 12-5. Brudi added onto the lead in the seventh with his fourth RBI and third double of the contest.

Converset earned his second win of the season as he tossed 2.2 scoreless innings, allowing just one walk while striking out one. Harvey got a no-decision in 4.1 innings of work while Jacob Koehring and Kalusa each pitched scoreless innings.

Brudi paced the offense going 4-for-5 with four RBIs and two runs score while Kalusa also tallied two hits, scoring twice and driving in two.

GAME TWO | IT 5, AQ 4

It wasn't a good start to game two for the Warriors and starter Brian Gremaux as three singles and a walk plated two runs and a groundout plated a third for a quick 3-0 lead for the Saints.

Tech's speed paid dividends early on as Brudi was hit by a pitch, stole second and then stole third as he and Portes executed a double steal. Dunnichay then plated Brudi with a groundout and Portes scored on a wild pitch to cut the deficit to one, 3-2.

Aquinas got their fourth run on a solo home run to lead off the fourth to push the lead to two. The Warriors then plated another run without a hit as Caleb Heller bead out a would-be double-play ball to allow Derek Morgan to score.

Tech finally got their first hit in the fifth as Portes and Dunnichay singled with one out and Wes Darrow plated one on a fielder's choice and Tyler Denniston delivered the game-winning sacrifice fly for the 5-4 win.

Marc Brandenburg earned his first win as a Warrior with one inning of perfect baseball while Curtis Wise got his fifth save of the year, allowing just two hits over two innings.

The Orange and Black tallied just three hits in the game, one each by Portes, Dunnichay and Heller while Brudi, Portes (2) and Dunnichay scored the team's five runs.

The Warriors have concluded the 2014 regular season and are set to host the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference tournament May 5-8. Tech is the No. 3-seed and will face an opponent to be determined at 10 a.m. on Monday with the winner facing second-seeded Northwestern Ohio at 4 p.m.
