Box Score | FORT WAYNE, Ind. – With their second win of day one, a 3-0 shutout of Northwestern Ohio, in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference tournament at Warriors Stadium on Monday, the Indiana Tech baseball team has earned a spot in the winner's bracket championship game, with a chance to play for the WHAC Championship on Wednesday.
Chase Keathley's arm and
Bryan Brudi's bat were the difference in the Warriors (33-21-1) victory. Keathley improved to 5-4 on the season as he scattered three hits over 6.1 innings, walking four and striking out four while
Curtis Wise earned his sixth save of the season with 2.2 innings of one hit baseball.
Tech got on the board first, in the third, as
Thomas Barnes recorded his first hit of the day, stole second and later scored on a Brudi double to left center. Brudi hustled and just beat the throw to second, which was crucial as
Romer Portes followed with a single to left for the 2-0 lead.
After Keathley stranded the sixth Racers (34-15) runner of the contest in the top of the fifth, Brudi went to work in the bottom half as he scored Kalusa from second with another base-hit.
After stranding two more in the sixth, a one-out walk in the seventh ended the day for Keathley and Wise stranded his 20th inherited runner this season and allowed just one hit, a leadoff single in the eighth, to nail down the save.
Brudi and Portes powered the offense for the Orange and Black as Brudi was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored while Portes also collected two hits and drove in a run.
The Warriors will return to action tomorrow, May 6 at 4 p.m. when they face top-seeded Davenport for a chance to play in the WHAC Championship on Wednesday afternoon.
