@INTechICE_D1 Drops Inaugural Contest to UM-Dearborn, 9-2

Box Score DEARBORN, Mich. – The Indiana Tech American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Division I Ice Hockey team made history as it began its inaugural season against UM-Dearborn at the Michigan Ice Arena on Friday night. It took the Warriors a couple of periods to get settled, but after they did they played the Wolverines even 2-2 in the third period. Unfortunately, that settling time ultimately cost the Orange and Black the game at 9-2. Once the Warriors' special teams began clicking they notched a pair of third-period power-play goals.

"We are a young team and it showed tonight," said Warriors Head Coach Frank DiCristofaro. "The speed of the game was more than our guys were prepared for. Their transition game was faster than ours, but we will be ready tomorrow. It was a good early test for our team."

Steve Klisz scored the program's first-ever goal 5:56 into the third period. The historic goal on the power play was assisted by Kyle Koop and Zach Barone. Almost seven minutes later, Quentin Holmes would round-out the game scoring with an unassisted power-play tally, becoming the first backliner in program history to score.

Zach Larson and Matt Hughes would split time between the pipes with both recording double-digit save totals and collectively making 45 saves, with the former getting the start. Larson registered 34 saves, while Hughes made 11 stops.

UM-D could only record one even-strength goal against each Warrior netminder. Had the Orange and Black been able to shut down the Wolverine special teams, the game may have ended tied.

Tech's offense produced 26 shots for the night. They improved their shot total each period with a period-high dozen shots in the final frame.

Twenty-three penalties were called during the contest. UM-D was able to register two of its power-play goals during a major five-minute penalty to Tech- the only major assessed during the game.

The Warriors and Wolverines will take to the ice again Saturday with puck drop scheduled to drop at 7:30 p.m.
