RESULTS | FORT WAYNE, Ind. – In what was a hard-fought, back and forth affair, the Indiana Tech ACHA Division I Ice Hockey team defeated future Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League foe, Western Michigan for the third time this season, 6-4, thanks to a pair of late tallies from newcomer Jace Childs at the SportONE/Parkview IceHouse on Saturday night.
The Warriors (7-21) registered their second home win of the season, thanks to a pair of goals in the third period. Things didn't start well for Tech as the Stallions (12-15) netted the first two goals of the contest, but the Orange and Black responded with back to back goals by
Quentin Holmes, from Steven Klisz, and
Chad Cobb, from
Anthony Passarelli and
Hudson Sabin.
In the second period, which was filled with a plethora of penalties,
Jarrett Pfeiffer corralled a rebound from
Ryan Theisen to put Tech in front, 3-2. The Stallions answered three minutes later to tie the score. Theisen and Pfeiffer were in on the Warriors fourth goal as well, as
Kyle Cobb beat the Western Michigan goaltender to take the lead again, but WMU scored just before the buzzer to knot the game at four heading to period three.
With just under two minutes to play, Childs was able to corral a great pass from Theisen and found the back of the net for the game-winner, while adding an empty net tally with 30 seconds to play to ice the game.
Tech tallied 25 shots while
Zach Larson, the Tech goaltender, faced 34 shots, making 30 saves while playing all 60 minutes.
Theisen led the Warriors with four points on four assists while Pfeiffer and Childs each tallied two points each.
The Warriors and Stallions will face each other again tomorrow, Jan. 25 with faceoff scheduled for 12:30 p.m. at the SportONE/Parkview IceHouse.
