FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Division 1 men's ice hockey team picked up its first in league play as a member of the Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League (GLCHL) on Friday night with a 9-0 win over Eastern Michigan at SportONE/Parkview Icehouse.
Zach Larson faced 27 shots from the Eagles and stopped all of them as he recorded his, and Tech's, first shutout of the year to pick up the win.
The Orange and Black took control in the first period with three goals.
Zack Morlock would open the scoring at 10:22 in the first, while
Adam Jonak picked up the second goal at 15:26 and
Jarrett Pfeiffer gave Tech a hat trick at 16:47.
Joe Molfetta picked up assists on the first and third goals.
The Warriors would explode in the second period with five goals between the 10:40 and 17:58 mark.
Alex Gregorich,
Ryan Attwood, Molfetta,
Quentin Holmes and Tim Wlodkowski all tallied a goal.
Tech's special teams were effective as well as they did not give up a goal in six short-handed opportunities and scored three of its five power play chances.
Molfetta led the Warriors with four points, while Holmes and
Nick Denice each picked up three points. Attwood, Gregorich and
Ryan Theisen all added two points apiece.
Tech (2-2-0, 1-1-0) returns to the ice tomorrow for the second game of the weekend set with the Eagles. Puck drop is set for 5:30 p.m. from the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse and live video will be available at IndianaTechWarriors.com.
