Warriors Battle Saints, Golden Eagles in Final Week of Play

8FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's soccer team travels to Adrian, Michigan, to battle with Siena Heights on Wednesday before hosting Cornerstone on Saturday evening for Senior Night as they close out the regular season.

Last Time Out: Tech lost in overtime to crosstown rival Saint Francis on Monday night, 2-1. Mitch Smith tallied his third goal of the season in the 23rd minute, but the Cougars would respond in the 54th minute to knot it up and Tyler Sidwell would score his second goal of the night just 49 seconds into extra time to give USF their first win of the year.
 
Head Coach David Bokhart: Now in his fifth season as the head coach of the Warriors, David Bokhart has won 40 games at the helm for the Orange and Black. During his tenure, Bokhart has coached 16 WHAC Academic All-Conference honorees, 9 All-Conference selections, 6 NAIA Scholar-Athlete recipients and one NAIA All-American and Conference Defensive Player of the Year (Mark Baptist).
 
Scouting the Opposition: Siena Heights – The Saints recently broke a five-match losing streak on Saturday when they defeated Lourdes, 1-0. Brent Rodden leads the team in goals (seven) and is tied for the lead in assists with five, while Matt Lentine and Alexandre Santos have six and five goals, respectively. Leo Hisamatsu has recorded two shutouts in just over 1,200 minutes of game action and sports a 1.79 goals against average (GAA).
 
Cornerstone – The Golden Eagles face will Lourdes on Wednesday, but have lost their last two matches, most recently falling to Marygrove on Saturday, 2-0. Cornerstone sits at fourth in the WHAC standings with 16 points. Diego Bobadilla leads the team in points (17) and assists (seven) while notching five goals. Kevin Nimmo is the Golden Eagles leading scorer with six goals. In goal, Nick Hopkins sports a 1.07 GAA and has only allowed 14 goals in just over 1,182 minutes. He has also recorded four shutouts and combined with Thomas Bowes on two.
 
Series Notes: Siena Heights – The Warriors are 6-3-1 against the Saints since 2005 and are currently on a six-match unbeaten streak against them. Tech has won the last two in the series, including last year when they beat Siena Heights, 3-2, in Fort Wayne. Mitch Smith scored the first goal for the Orange and Black, while Zachary St. Aubin added an assist. Logan Kelly earned the win in goal with two saves.
 
Cornerstone – Tech has dropped the last three in the series to the Golden Eagles, most recently falling in Grand Rapids a season ago, 1-0.
 
Making His Presence Felt: Freshman Brennan Cochran has made an immediate impact on the pitch for the Orange and Black, starting 13 of the team's 16 games and leading the team in goals (10) and points (20). The Auburn, Indiana, native ranks among the top-10 among the WHAC offensive leaders in: points (tied for seventh), points per game (tied for seventh), goals (fourth), goals per game (fourth), shots per game (first) and shots on goals per game (first). Nationally he ranks 13th in shots on goals per game. (2.57) and 16th in shots per game (4.43)
 
Savings Machine: Logan Kelly finds himself among the nation's best when it comes to defending the net. His 68 saves place him in a tie for 49th in the country. The Fort Wayne native has a 2.15 GAA in just over 1,255 minutes of game action.
 
Cool and Confident: The Warriors are a perfect four for four in penalty kicks this season, while not allowing an attempt to their opponents. Nyi Nyi Aung, Brennan Cochran, Landon Cochran and Zachary St. Aubin have all converted from the line this fall.
 
Getting it done in the Classroom: Indiana Tech was recognized with the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award on Sept. 23 after obtaining a 3.01 composite grade point average for the 2014-15 academic year. The Team Academic Award is awarded annually to soccer programs whose student-athletes have excelled in the classroom. It is the seventh time that the men's team has received the honor and the first under Bokhart. Tech was one of only two men's teams in the WHAC to be recognized.
 
Flying Many Flags: This year's Warriors squad is represented by nine different countries and four continents. Tech features players from Germany, Ireland, England, Portugal, Brazil, South Africa, Austria and Canada in addition to the United States.
