KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Indiana Tech American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Division 1 men's ice hockey team battled back from a three-goal deficit to force overtime against Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League (GLCHL) rival Western Michigan, but lost 4-3 in the second installment of the "Battle of I-69."
Tech would find itself down early as the Stallions would score twice in the opening period and add another in the second, but goals from
Ryan Theisen and
Dominick Manochio would cut the deficit to 3-2 heading into the third period.
Jarrett Pfeiffer would notch the game-tying goal off the feed from
Jace Childs and Theisen, but the hosts would score just a minute and 20 seconds into the extra period to give Western Michigan the season series.
"Our guys battled back from an early deficit," said head coach
Frank DiCristofaro. "We also hit a couple posts late that could have made the difference. Now we have to turn the page and focus on a big weekend at Kent State."
Tech (7-6, 4-4 GLCHL) heads to Kent, Ohio this weekend for a pair of games against the Flashes. The first game is set for Friday night at 7:30 p.m. while Saturday's contest is slated for 3:15 p.m. Both games will be held at The Ice Arena.
