FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech ACHA Division 1 men's ice hockey team battled back from three deficits but came up short in a 6-5 loss to No. 3 Adrian on Saturday evening at the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse.
The Warriors battled back from 1-0, 2-1 and 3-2 deficits through the first two periods to head into the final 20 minutes of regulation all knotted at three. The Bulldogs would get two goals in a 46 second span in the third period from Brad Kobryn, who also added a goal in the second.
Tech get its offense going in the last five minutes of the period as
Jace Childs made it 6-4 at 4:50 and
Adam Jonak brought the Orange and Black within one at 1:07, but the hosts were unable to get the tying goal as the Bulldogs held on.
"We had a two and a half minute lapse in the third and you can't do that against a team like that," said head coach
Frank DiCristofaro. "But I was pround of the way we battled back and that's the kind of fight we're going to need moving forward."
Ryan Theisen,
Chad Frost and
Jarrett Pfeiffer added the other three goals for the Warriors. Theisen and Pfeiffer also added two assists while
Brian Skillicorn and
Joe Molfetta picked up one each.
Zach Larson made 37 saves in goal for the Warriors. Both sides played clean games as there were only three penalties combined.
Tech (9-7-0-1-0) returns to the ice next weekend for the Michigan-Dearborn Tournament. The Warriors take on ACHA D2 Michigan State on Friday and Central Michigan on Saturday, with both games taking place at 4 p.m. The Orange and Black will then take on a to-be decided opponent on Sunday with a to-be announced game time.
