GULF SHORES, Ala. – On a day in which the Indiana Tech men's and women's track and field teams looked to position themselves for another run at a pair of National Championships, weather forced the postponement of the majority of competition for the first time since 2004. The event is being held at the Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium and Gulf Shores Sports Complex over the next two days.
 
The women's 4x100m relay team of Patricia Thompson, Shayla France, Jewel Thomas and Brianna Woods got the day started by winning their heat with the second fastest qualifying time of 45.73, which is 10th-best in program history.
 
The men's relay team of Kahlid Fuller, Harris Edwards III, Matthew Souvannasing and John Broaden enter Saturday's final with the third-best time of 40.26, the second best mark in Tech history.
 
In the only other event that finished for the Warriors, Deshawn Woods and Robert Rose each advanced to the finals of the 400m hurdles while D'Quan Ruth was the first runner out of the final eight. Woods won heat one with a time of 51.40, the second best mark in school history, while Rose won the fourth heat in 52.72.
 
In the women's pole vault, Lindsey Sechrist and Latonya Wilson both cleared a pair of bars before the rains came while Carly Schmidt has yet to enter the competition which will resume at 4 p.m. on Friday, May 22.
 
There has been some changes to the day two schedule with the men's 10,000m taking place at 8:45 a.m., the second event of the day, while the women's and men's 200m will take place at 5:15 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., respectively. The Warriors will also compete in the women's 3,000m Steeplechase which will take place at 6:55 p.m. All other events will continue as originally scheduled.
