FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech volleyball team returns to the court this weekend as they are scheduled for four matches over the next two days at the Lindsey Wilson Volleyball Classic in Columbia, Kentucky.
After going 0-4 at the Bethel Pilot Invitational last weekend, the Warriors will open the Classic with a doubleheader on Thursday afternoon in search of their first win of the season. First up at 5 p.m. is Campbellsville (Ky.) and then immediately following the match Tech will turn around to play Point Park (Pa.) at 7 p.m.
Friday has the Orange and Black battling Bethel (Tenn.) and Asbury (Ky.) at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., respectively, to close out their weekend.
Last Time Out: The Warriors found themselves on the wrong side of a five-setter for the second time in two days at the Bethel College (Ind.) Invitational as they fell to the host Pilots (19-25, 25-18, 25-12, 22-25, 11-15). The junior tandem of
Cassie Sarabia and
Jazmin Alexander each recorded double digit kills with 13 and 10, respectively. Freshman
Gabby Staggs led the Warriors with nine blocks, while Sarabia added four.
Junior libero
Taylor Kelso was over the floor for the Orange and Black, racking up 31 digs, 17 assists and serving up an ace. Not to be outdone, sophomore setter
Karli Jones also dished out 17 assists while recording eight digs. The loss dropped the Warriors to 0-4 in the tournament and on the year.
Digging It: Kelso has made a living diving on the floor over her three years with the Warriors. Through her first two seasons, she amassed 1,142 digs and is showing no signs of slowing down. Through four matches this year she has already reached triple digits, including a season high 31 against Bethel. She has reached 30 or more digs three times in her career.
Looking Ahead: Tech will open WHAC play next Wednesday, Sept. 2, when they take on Michigan-Dearborn in a 7 p.m. match in Dearborn. The Warriors will open their home slate on Sept. 9 when Concordia (Mich.) comes to the Summit City.
