Tech Falls in Overtime to Redbirds

Box Score BENSENVILLE, Ill. – The 18th-ranked Indiana Tech ACHA Division 1 men's ice hockey team fell to Illinois State, 3-2, in overtime at the Robert Morris Showcase at the Edge Ice Arena on Saturday afternoon.

"We played hard, but need to capitalize on the opportunities we get," head coach Frank DiCristofaro said.

The Redbirds took a 1-0 just 32 seconds into the game, but Taylor Jones would tie the game up at 4:26 in the first as the two sides headed into the first intermission tied at one.

Dylan Grant would give the Orange and Black the lead at 13:26 in the second, but Illinois State would rally to tie the game up at 13:55 in the third. Neither side was able to break the tie in regulation and overtime was needed to decide the contest.

The game appeared to be headed into a shootout before the Redbirds scored the game-winning goal with just two seconds remaining on the clock to give the Warriors their second consecutive loss.

Zach Larson made 17 saves in goal for the Warriors while Grant was credited with the assist on Jones' goal.

Tech (10-3-2) returns to action on Sunday when they face off with #7 Robert Morris (Ill.) at 3 p.m. EST to conclude a busy weekend at the RMU Showcase.
