FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The 20th Indiana Tech ACHA Division 1 men's ice hockey team took down ACHA Division 2 Michigan in a thrilling 5-4 victory on Friday night at the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse in the team's final home game of the season.
After falling behind 2-0 to the Spartans, the Warriors would respond with a goal from
Ryan Attwood at 9:05 in the second period. Michigan State would score just a minutes and 47 seconds later though, to take back the two-goal advantage. Attwood would add his second goal at 17:10 and cut the deficit to one heading into the final period.
After coincidental roughing minors at the 3:30 mark in the third period, the Tech offense really exploded, scoring two goals in seven seconds (
Joe Molfetta and
Kyle Cobb) to take a 4-3 lead. It would be short-lived however, the Spartans tied it back up at the 5:10 mark.
Adam Jonak would score the game-winner at the 8:46 mark thanks to a fortuitous bounce into the net after his shot hit the Spartans goalie in the shoulder.
Zach Larson made 27 saves for the Orange and Black while
Quentin Holmes,
Chad Cobb, Molfetta and Jonak each tallied an assist.
Tech (21-12-1-1) heads to Brighton, Michigan on Saturday for the rematch against the Spartans. Puck drop is set for 2:30 from the Kensington Valley Ice House.
